Keywords: Asemic Writing, Algorithm, Iterative, Random.
This project, created through Processing, has as result the various visual compositions that show an attempt of an asemic writing, influenced by the aesthetics of traditional oriental vertical writing.
To make the algorithm work, it is only necessary to press down a random keyboard key or the mousepad to draw new and different lines each time. When the whole canvas is filled, the lines begin to overlap to those created previously, it can go on and on, many times as our patience allows, but if you want to restart just press the Enter key and it will all be erased. The visual compositions achieved after several iterations of the algorithm may be similar, but they are never the same.
With all of this, I propose a new way of looking at writing, this writing as something strangely familiar but incomprehensible. Using the code as a way of moving away from the “writing” itself, surprising us with each line created, guaranteeing without a doubt the necessary impartiality to the process.
The Future Vision Online Exhibition was available from 11 February to 11 March 2021.
What you find here is a fleeting glimpse of the 21 works – or in better words, 21 future visions – coming from artists, designers, researchers, professionals, and students who explored complex questions from a critical and creative perspective.
We extend our warmest thanks to everyone who participated in the PCD21.
