re: コード [yourself] is a mirror installation using the webcam results from a system that re-adapts previously seen systems for generative ASCII Art but using the Japanese Alphabet.

re: コード [yourself]

ASCII art represents the technique in which images or patterns are created from coded characters. The intent of this form of art was to create ways of communicating and expressing pictorially.

re: コード [yourself]

This project re-imagines and re-adapts this practice but with unfamiliar alphabets: in this case, with Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana characters used in the Japanese language.

re: コード [yourself] reflects and decomposes the user’s image into different characters, and therefore, meanings.

I’m a designer and web developer from Braga, with a Master's degree in Design and Multimedia. I explore different areas from graphic and editorial work to digital, web and media art. I love working with creative coding - one can quickly create visuals for any of these areas. It allows me to quickly play with decisions and explore the relationship between logic and organic, code and art, ruled and random, and digital and analogical.

RECODE Online Exhibition

RECODE has admitted a resonance of the culture of the creative coding community as a plural movement of interpretation, reclaim, revisit, and/or resignification of artworks and fundamental practices of early computer graphics and art and its subsequent works through the usage of contemporary media, tools, and technologies.

We invite you to explore how artists, academics, researchers, and practitioners explored and interpreted the notion of recode in their works.
